The New Informal Service
In January we launched a new informal service, to which all were welcome.
The service aims to be on the 4th Sunday of each month.
The Date and theme will be on the Main Page
The first one got off to a great start with over 50 people attending!
Revd Matt Hird Presented the evening along with his wife Jess and help from Alison Storer and Geoff Gooding.
There were Fresh Coffees,Teas and Juice throughout the evening, (not just at intervals, whenever you needed a top up!) along with Cake, Buiscuits.
Lots of time for chat and talking about the theme for that night which was about New Year Resolutions and wanting to make a change in our lives.
There was a short video clip which was entertaining and relavant to the evening and got everyone talking.
Matt's friend Tom, was on percussion and the music was upbeat and instantly catchy. The words were put up on a projection screen, and although Matt had invited us to either listen or sing... Everyone wanted to sing!
The worship was in the form of song, a reading from the Bible and a chat on the theme of the night.
There are ocasions at St Barts, when you know something special has happened, this was one of them, the atmosphere was warm and inviting from the start, and having had a "Great night out" we left with a smiles on our faces and God truly in our hearts!
The Service aims to be highly accessible and relevant, and will has a relaxed café feel, with contemporary music.
The February Service Theme was on Lyrics used in Pop songs and we looked at "Dizzy Rascal's Bonkers" and Lilly Allen, Florence and the Machine as well as others.
...Some may think "what does this have to do with religion" well if you dont come and find out what exciting things are happening in your church ...you will never know.
This new venture will present many opportunities for people to use their God-given gifts. In particular, would you prayerfully consider whether you might serve in any of the following areas:
· Welcoming
· Refreshments
· Setting-up
· Technology
· Musicians
If you feel you may have gifts to offer in these, or other, areas please make yourself known to Revd Matt.
[Musicians – it would be helpful to get together for a jam. This will allow you to work out if this is for you, and to find out who might work well together, before any commitment is made].
What gifts do you have to offer?
